Singles Matchplay is a head-to-head golf format where players compete hole by hole, with the winner being the player who wins the most holes during the round.
The scoring is straightforward — the player with the fewest shots on a hole wins that hole. If both players score the same, the hole is halved.
Handicaps are calculated using a 100% handicap allowance, by subtracting the lower handicap from the higher handicap.
Example:
Player 1 – Handicap 20
Player 2 – Handicap 10
Calculation:
20 – 10 = 10 shots awarded to Player 1
The player with the lower handicap always plays off scratch, with the difference in handicaps awarded to the higher-handicap player.

Please note: Any decimal value after the handicap calculation is rounded up or down depending on whether it falls below 0.5 or at 0.5 and above.
Please remember to confirm your official Playing Handicap on Scottish Golf before applying any calculations.
Please note: all knockout games have a final handicap limit of 24
The White Tee markers are recommended for competition play. However, if all players agree, any tee box on the course may be used. Please ensure handicaps are recalculated correctly on Scottish Golf for the chosen tee set.
