Doubles Matchplay is a fun and competitive 2 v 2 format, where two teams of two players compete hole by hole. Each golfer plays their own ball throughout the hole — including tee shots, approach shots, and putts — with the lowest individual score on the hole winning it for their team.
The team that wins the most holes during the round wins the match.
Handicaps are calculated using 90% of the difference from the lowest handicap player in the group.
Player A – Handicap 10
Player B – Handicap 20
Player C – Handicap 15
Player D – Handicap 14
Player B:
20 – 10 = 10
90% of 10 = 9
Player B receives 9 shots
Player C:
15 – 10 = 5
90% of 5 = 4.5
Rounded to 5
Player C receives 5 shots
Player D:
14 – 10 = 4
90% of 4 = 3.6
Rounded to 4
Player D receives 4 shots
The player with the lowest handicap (Player A) plays off scratch and does not receive any shots.

Please note: Any decimal value after the handicap calculation is rounded up or down depending on whether it falls below 0.5 or at 0.5 and above.
Please remember to confirm your official Playing Handicap on Scottish Golf before applying any calculations.
Please note: all knockout games have a final handicap limit of 24
The White Tee markers are recommended for competition play. However, if all players agree, any tee box on the course may be used. Please ensure handicaps are recalculated correctly on Scottish Golf for the chosen tee set.
